Fees for residence permits for third-country nationals
According to the provisions of the Fee Act (Gebührengesetz) the following fees are payable for the issue of residence permits. The authority may only issue the residence permit once all fees have been paid.
For applications submitted on or after January 1, 2026, there is only one application fee. This means that the fee must be paid when the application is submitted and will not be refunded even if the application is rejected or withdrawn:
- Temporary residence permit: € 218.00
- Permanent residence permit “Permanent residence – EU”: € 275.00
- Confirmation of timely application in the extension procedure in accordance with Section 24 NAG (emergency vignette): € 50.00
No fees are payable for the residence permit of a child born in Austria when the first application is made before the child's second birthday.
The following applies to applications submitted before January 1, 2026. In this case, part of the fee is payable when the application is submitted and the second part when the residence permit card is issued:
Residence permits (with a limited validity):
- € 212 for persons above the age of 6
- € 192 for children below the age of 6
„long term resident – EU“:
- € 277 for persons above the age of 6
- € 257 for children below the age of 6

Additional fees may be charged if foreign documents (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate) or supporting documents are submitted.
For the residence permit of a child born in Austria for the first application no fees have to be paid until the child's 2nd birthday.
