Stay permit „cross-border worker“
The stay permit "cross-border worker" entitles the holder to a temporary stay in Austria for employed work without having a residence in Austria.
The stay permit "cross-border worker" is usually issued for 12 months. You can find more information on the validity period of residence permits here.
Who can receive a stay permit "cross-border worker"?
A stay permit „cross-border worker“ can be granted if
- the third-country national holds a permanent residence permit from a neighbouring country of Austria with unrestricted access to the labour market,
- employment is to be taken up in a border district in Austria and
- the requirements of § 4 (1), with the exception of Item 1 of the Foreign Nationals Employment Act, are met.
What are the requirements for a stay permit “cross-border worker"?
The general and special conditions for the granting of a residence permit must be fulfilled.

Can family members get a residence permit in Austria?
No. There is no possibility of family reunification with the holder of a stay permit “crossborder worker”.
