Civil protection

Since May 2003, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has been in charge not only for the coordination in all national disaster protection management matters, but also for matters concerning national crisis management and international disaster relief.

Responsibilities for the coordination of supraregional and international disaster relief have thus been unified under one roof, which allows improved and, more importantly, faster response and assistance in emergency situations.

In this respect, the Federal Alarm Centre (BWZ) in the Operations and Crisis Coordination Centre at the Federal Ministry of the Interior serves as an operational basis for major technological disasters.
